Why Tariffs Suck (And Why We’re Still Making the Best Damn Wallets in America)

If you're searching for handmade leather wallets, American-made wallets, or the best wallet maker in the U.S., you're in the right place. This is Dark Forest, and we’re still doing it the hard way, on purpose.

In a world full of imported junk stitched together for pennies, tariffs are supposed to help American makers like us compete. But let’s be real: they don’t. They just make it more expensive for everyone to get the materials we actually need. Our leather, tools, machines, most of the good stuff doesn’t come cheap or easy. And tariffs? They suck. They punish small U.S. businesses while mass-produced crap still floods the market.

So instead of waiting around for policy to fix things, we doubled down on what we do best: building leather wallets that outlast the trends and outclass the competition. Every wallet is dyed, burnished, and built right here in our Portland, Oregon workshop. No shortcuts. No compromise. No mass production.

You're not just buying a wallet, you’re buying into a movement of makers who refuse to do it the easy way. And yeah, it costs a little more. But that's because it’s worth a hell of a lot more.
